Backyard WIldlife/Wilddead

This morning Ken spotted a mama deer and her baby in the backyard. A much more pleasant sight than the girls and I saw this morning. As we were walking around the corner of our house, toward the swing set, something popped up out of the grass. I thought that Rachel stepped on one of the many sticks that Lizzy likes to carry around the yard. Until Rachel exclaimed a snake! Thankfully it did not bite her. She was so close to it. It gave me quite a scare. I am sure the snake was quite scared too but, no snake was going to stay in my yard if I had anything to say about it! I didn't think we could do it but with Emma's help the snake is now history. The girls were very brave. Actually they were not scared at first (Rachel wanted to pet it) until they realized their mother thought it was a dire situation. Emma quickly got me the spade shovel as the snake and I each kept a close eye on each other and before he was able to slither too far away. I won't post any pictures we would only have post-mortem shots and it isn't too pretty. Hopefully there aren't any of his relatives lurking about. I don't want a repeat episode of this mornings adventures and I pray that none show up inside the house!

Oh dear ! What a scare! I am glad you got him! I am sure Sarah would have liked to see it, even in it's dead stage !

You killed a snake??? But snakes are fine even in your yard if they're not poisonous. They can even keep down the population of other kinds of pests. I guess I'll have to take you back to the snake-petting station at the zoo a few more times!
