Evan (7 weeks old) stretching out his legs and playing. What a tall looking boy he's getting to be! Must be from his Daddy's genes.

Evan's Six Week Photos

P.S. Thanks Barb for the cute Christmas jammies! I should have taken a shot with him on his tummy so everyone could see the cute little pj's backside :-)

Christmas Decorating

Ann-marie got the creative parent award several weeks ago for her little Dutch girl costume. But Ken gets it this week for his homemade bow and arrow made with two plastic clothes hangers, string, and a sponge.

The paparazzi showed up while I was taking his pictures.

Okay, I surrender, I'll take a nap!

It's nice to have talented sisters...These are just a few of my favorite shots from our photo shoot with Lois. It was really hard to choose which to use for Evan's birth announcement. I'll share some of the ones that will not be on the announcement but are just too good not to share...

Strong Political Convictions

Emma was pleased yesterday morning to hear the election results. She has been rooting for Obama. About a month or more ago she had been watching a PBS kids program in the morning at the end of the show she came to me and requested the TV be turned off (an unusual request coming from her). She said that her show was done and a show came on about McCain and "that just wasn't good to her". When I asked why "it wasn't good to her" her response was (quite forcefully) that she didn't like some of his ideas. Several weeks after this incident we were having salad, chicken nuggets, and McCain smiley fries for supper. Emma refused to eat the smiley fries! With the up coming election, politics and critiquing BOTH candidates proposed policies has been a topic of dinner conversation lately and I was beginning to wonder if we had said anything to influence her opinion. After further questioning and discussion we came to the conclusion that she was basing her preference for president on the sound of their names. She just didn't like the sound of McCain's name as well as Obama's. The moral of the story-if you want your kid to be president of the United States name he or she well!

Some Long Awaited Pictures

Rachel has been symptom free for 24 hours so Evan and I came home to our house today. I haven't downloaded all the pictures yet but at least these are the latest.

And Now For The Rest Of The Story...

Sorry Aunts and other interested parties, still no pictures to post. This morning Evan and I were being released from the hospital and the plan was for Ken and the girls to come get us when all the discharge papers were complete. When I phoned home to say we were close to being ready Ken informed me we had a problem...Rachel had thrown up three times this morning! So, to make another long story somewhat short...a friend came over (thank you again Dort!) and watched Rachel while Ken and Emma came to get Evan and I this afternoon. We got home, I packed up things that Evan and I needed and I headed to Mom and Dad's house. Which is where I am now and why there are no pictures posted (their computer is not able to download the pictures). Pray that Rachel will soon recover and pray that Ken and Emma do not get sick! The anxious Aunts will just have to wait till I get home. Besides, it will just give you something to look forward to!

Tuesday's Posting

I had plans to update my blog on Tuesday-really I did. I took pictures of the early snow fall we were getting and pictures of the apples the girls and I used to make a pie which was also our homeschooling math for the day. What better way to introduce measurements than with cups of apples, teaspoons of cinnamon, and sugar? Anyway I had a burst of energy Tuesday morning and also gave the dog a bath, scrubbed down the tub, and did some vacuuming before heading off to the library and later the sitter's house to drop the girl's off for my doctor's appointment at 2:30. My plan was to sit down and post the pictures when we got home. Well, instead this is how the rest of my day came about. Right before we left home I had one or two contractions. While waiting to see the doctor two more. He did a pelvic exam and found that I was a good 3 1/2 centimeters dilated and my cervix was very ripe. We decided he would induce me Monday at noon if I didn't go into labor before then. Be the time he was done treating my feet for some nasty little warts I acquired this summer I had two more contractions. By the look on the nurse's face I would venture to say she was thinking he should send me straight to the hospital (I warned them that when I get to about 4 centimeters I usually progress rapidly). Anyway, my plan was to pick up a few groceries before picking up the girls and heading home. Nurse Peggy advised me to go straight home and call my husband. I told her I would think about it. So, I tried calling Ken who wasn't in the office and I couldn't reach on his cell phone. I decided "while I was thinking about it" I would head in the direction of the grocery store which is actually in the opposite direction from home by closer to the hospital. By the time I picked up my few basics I thought it would be wise to check if the sitter could keep the girls for the night and head home- just in case. They were able to stay so I dropped off their bag which thankfully I had thrown in the van before leaving just in case something would come up. In the meanwhile, Ken had gotten back to the office and returned my call. I told him that I thought we would probably be heading for the hospital that night and he should finish up at the office and go home. Somewhere around 4:30-4:45 I had 8 contractions within a 20 minute period. I called the doctor and told him we were heading for the hospital as soon as Ken gets home. I called Ken and told him that as soon as he gets home we would need to leave -and so we did. Since Ken didn't have time to get supper and I hadn't eaten either we stopped at the McDonald's drive through for his supper and a drink for me. It had been snowing a good bit all day and the roads were starting to get bad. Ken placed the order and then told the girl at the drive-up window to make it snappy because his wife is in labor. She gave a little chuckle and I said she probably doesn't believe you and promptly had another contraction (at this point they were coming about every two minutes). He told her he was serious, she quickly sped up the transaction, and as we were quickly pulling away as I heard here asking which hospital we were heading for...I was getting anxious to get to the hospital knowing how quickly I progressed with Rachel's delivery, knowing the roads were slippery and we had approximately 40 minute drive ahead of us. We came up behind a State Trooper who was following two other cars that were faithfully obeying the speed limit. We joked that it was too bad we couldn't radio ahead to the Trooper and request an escort. We also joked that we sure weren't expecting to drive through a snow storm to deliver THIS baby. The roads got even worse and we ended up passing a total of three accidents. One of which could have easily involved us by a matter of seconds. A pick-up truck coming from the opposite direction slide across our lane of traffic and into the ditch just before we got there. I was already praying that we would make it there safely and before I delivered. This made me pray even harder! We did make it safely to the hospital. I looked at the clock when we got in my room it was 6 pm. The doctor checked me I was 5 centimeters and still having regular contractions. At 7pm he broke my water and at 8:07pm little Evan was born 20 days early, weighing in at 6 lbs. 14 ounces, measuring 19 3/4 inches, and using his lungs to wail up a storm! He is a very cute little guy and doing wonderful! Hopefully I can soon get some pictures downloaded for all those anxious Aunts out there.
Yesterday you saw what Ken and the girls have been doing. This is some of what I did this summer (besides learning how to drive the tractor with the pull behind mower). Which, unfortunately was just about the only yard and gardening work I was allowed to do. I'll have a lot of catching up to do in the flower beds next spring!
I've been trying to grow a healthy baby and avoid pre-term labor. I am now at 36 weeks. From the looks of my tummy he is definitely growing and if I went into labor at this point, my doctors would let me go ahead and deliver.
I made a baby quilt with the help of family and friends.
I also made matching curtains and a comforter.

WOW! Two posts from me in one day! Yes, folks it's two fer the price of one! Just a few more old pictures from our vacation last month...
Rachel posing in the "big city".
Our two little paleontologists hard at work.
Emma in the newly renovated Dinosaur Hall.
Ken almost getting his his bit off by some prehistoric creature. Rachel offering up her head as a sacrifice instead.
Emma on the water works floor at the Children's museum. Uncle Kendall would have been proud of her lengthy attempts at fixing all those broken pipes!
Anyone recognize this bag of donuts? We stopped at a small local store/ gas station/ dairy/ restaurant on our way to Pittsburgh and I spotted this package culinary of delight from my childhood. We decided to indulge since I haven't seen them in years and we were on vacation. Little did I know Emma would spot them a few weeks later on the bottom shelf of our local Wal-Mart. It made them seem a little less special but also dangerous knowing they are so readily available.
I finally downloaded the last pictures from this summer. Here are a few misc. ones for your viewing pleasure...
Emma and Rachel posing with the wishing well Ken made this summer.
A frequently played game of "Tom & Jerry". This time Mommy was requested as make-up artist to make the players look a little more realistic.
Emma teaching Uncle Jason some new songs. Jason have you finished your homework yet? Emma has already learned at least two new songs in her piano book.
The wise-man built his patio upon the rock AND the sand-The final brick being laid in place!
Our "caterpillar tent" also built by Ken. It was a great way to observe our caterpillar this year.
