Why My House Gets Cleaned And Why I Love Being a Mom
I have learned as the mother of two wonderful children (a two-year-old and four-year old) not to give my house a regular cleaning. Why should I mop my bathroom floor on a regular basis? Someone will be glad to help me out by either bailing out half a tub of bath water or better yet toilet water onto the floor, which will need mopped up. Why wipe down the bathroom countertop? Someone might do a finger-painting on it with toothpaste or smear a third of a bottle of hand soap all over it “to clean” for Mommy. Why scrub down the tub? Someone may think it is a good idea to spray the new puppy with the pet stain/odor remover and the poor puppy will need a bath in our tub. Why clean the toilet? Someone might want to decorate the INSIDE of the toilet bowl with colored pencil drawings. Why wash, dry, fold and put away every article of clothing? Surely, soon as the laundry process is complete someone is guaranteed to either pee in her panties, have a nosebleed all over the bed sheets or decide to remove all their clothing from the dresser drawers and cover the bedroom floor with them. Why sweep and polish the hall floor? When two little girls might have fun sprinkling lotion all over it? Why wipe down my walls? Someone or “sometwo” might think that a mural done in crayon would be a lovely way to decorate the living room wall. Why wash my windows? The same two that creatively produced the wall mural may want to move on to the windows. After all, window art can be viewed from both inside and out! Why fix the bed? The blankets might make a great tent.
So, why do I love being a Mom? What other excuse would I have to build a blanket tent, pretend to be a dinosaur or Swiper the fox, sing songs, swing on a swing set, blow bubbles, play with dolls, play-doh, crayons, and paint? Or how else could I witness, on a daily basis and first hand, the creativity, discovery, and joys of life from the perspective of two mischievous little girls?
