I like the brown backdrop. What are you using for lighting right now?
For this picture I used a farm utility lamp ($10 at lowes) for the main light,a desk lamp with adjustable arm for some fill side light and another little desk lamp with a bendable neck to light the backdrop. The bulbs I used in the utility lamp and adjustable lamp were 100w florescent daylight bulbs. The backdrop was a solid black muslin highlighted with a tungsten bulb which gave it a brown color. Photoshop helped to make the highlighted area on the backdrop look a little more like a real studio shot.
