Rachel Update

I did take Rachel to her pediatrician yesterday. I was glad to get an early morning appointment. I don't know about other kids but mine always seem to perk up in the doctors office. Must be the different toys and books. Anyway, at first sight and before examining her, his observation was that she looked good and he thought she would check out just fine. The tick site looked did look good with no swelling and no rash. However, her throat looked like strep. He didn't even do a throat culture though because it looked bad enough to put her on an antibiotic regardless of a negative strep test. Which says a lot about her condition since antibiotics are not readily dispensed by our pediatric group. An antibiotic would have also been the course of treatment for a tick infection so we at least have medication for the next 10 days in any event. He also took some time to take a look at Emma's throat, even though she didn't have an appointment and in spite of the fact that it did take time considering her very uncooperative mood, just to make sure it didn't look bad too. She seems to be fine other than a yucky nose. Rachel however, is still not eating or drinking much. Nothing appeals to her other than of course, chocolate, which was the only way to bribe her into swallowing medicine. So far today, much like the previous three days, all she has consumed is two bites of a banana, almost one bottle of Boost (chocolate flavor of course) energy drink, a few swallows of other various liquids, and a small piece of bribery chocolate. Her throat hurts so bad she usually only takes on or two swallows of something before declaring " I don't like that!" or "It hurts!". At least today I have had a few less requests to be held and she had enough energy to torment her sister a few times-must have been from the Boost! Maybe it is a sign that she will soon be improving. Oh for a glorious night of peaceful sleep all night in my own bed again!

I sure hope Rachel is on the mend, and all of you will rest better!
